What is the meaning behind the name Other Peoples?
When asked recently why I didn’t talk about myself more, I said, “Because I’m more interested in other people’s answers!” I also struggle with some serious imposter syndrome and often don’t think my answers are good enough, but let’s focus on the former!
How do I sign up?
Text me at 🇺🇸 313.825.4670 from the US or 🇨🇦 647.370.6832 if you’re in Canada. If you can’t resist email, reach out at michael@legworkventuregroupe.com.
What happens after I sign up?
You’ll enter your details over text message (SMS) and start receiving tough questions and bi-weekly recaps.
What is the intention behind this?
Being curious enough to ask questions and mustering the courage to answer them seems to generate joy, diffuse tension, reveal shared struggles, and offer a light in the dark as we stumble toward our future. It’s got me through some tough sh*t, helped me build stronger relationships, and made me laugh until milk came out my nose 😹. I hope it does the same for you!
Why are you using SMS (text messages)?
Somethings are just better over text 🤷🏽♂️. Some scientists even did a study to prove as much. To keep things personal and avoid adding to your email inbox, I’ll use text messages (SMS) to pose questions, share content, and seek feedback. If you can’t resist email, reach out at michael@legworkventuregroupe.com.
Who writes these questions?
Someone smarter than me 🤓. The first round of questions comes from The School of Life’s 100 Questions: Original Edition. Please note there is currently no affiliation between Other Peoples and The School of Life, and I do not receive any compensation if you purchase the card set or other products.
What happens after we make it through 100 questions?
We all take a nap under one of those weighted blankets and then kick off another 52 weeks of tough questions.
What are some example questions?
“What do you imagine people say when they gossip about you?”
“In what ways are you a difficult person to have a relationship with?”
“What work were you doing the last time you forgot time altogether?”
Do I have to answer?
Nope! When the weekly tough questions come through, you choose whether to answer, ignore me, or use them on Tinder with a coy “totally random question but…” There’s value in reading the texted questions each week, even if you leave me on ‘read.’ You do you, boo.
Who will see my answers?
Just me. Your answers will never be shared without your explicit consent.
Is this anonymous?
Sort of. I’ll be the only one with access to your name, phone number, and email. You can always give a fake name and/or use a non-primary email address.
How does the bi-weekly recap work?
Every other week you’ll be texted the link to a recap post here on Substack to tease out recurring themes based on the previous two weeks of Q&A. It won’t land in your email inbox unless I’ve screwed up the settings here! Recaps are meant to highlight the curiosity and courage inherent in questioning yourself and the people around you, and may come with suggested wine pairings!
Can I just read the recaps?
Yes, although only those who opt-in to receive text-based questions will get access to recaps. While you don’t have to text in your answers, it feels important that you receive the questions every week as intended.
What do you need my email for?
Your email gets you access to the bi-weekly recap posts here on Substack. I hope to avoid jumping into your inbox and will never sell or distribute your email.
How much does it cost?
Nothing!
Can I invite my friends?
Yes, please! Tell them to text 🇺🇸 313.825.4670 from the US or 🇨🇦 647.370.6832 from Canada.
How do I unsubscribe?
Text STOP at any time to 🇺🇸 313.825.4670 from the US or 🇨🇦 647.370.6832 from Canada to remove yourself from the SMS and email list.
What tech stack are you using?
Airtable - Modern database I use as a CRM and a single point of truth.
OpenPhone - Digital business phone I use to manage text communications.
Substack - Platform I use to post written and audio versions of recaps.
Shure MV88 Microphone - Tim Ferriss approved and incredibly easy to use.
Auphonic - Automatic audio post production web service for podcasts.
Garage Band - For editing cat sounds 😹
Message and Data Rates
Unlimited texting might feel ubiquitous, but your wireless carrier may charge you a small fee to receive text messages based on your plan. If they do, I’d suggest a new plan or a new wireless carrier. I heard Ryan Reynolds has great rates!
